Critical Incidents in Post-Primary Schools

This workshop is aimed at Principal teachers, Guidance Counsellors and/or members of the Schools Critical Incident Management Team or Student Support Team and will be delivered by Alan Gregory from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS).

Aim of the workshop:
To support schools to review their critical incident plans.
To review what constitutes a critical incident and the various levels of response.
To share ideas on the promotion of a caring ethos of physical and psychological safety in a school which can lessen the impact of a critical incident, should it arise.
To consider appropriate responses in sample cases which have occurred in Irish primary schools and to share learning’s and good practice from experiences of previous incidents.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

Review materials from the Responding to Critical Incidents: Guidelines & Resource Materials for Schools, 3rd Edition.
Work through different case scenarios and see how your critical incident plan will cope.
Leave the workshop with a clear plan of the steps they need to take in order that their schools will be in a stronger position to deal with the significant challenges which a critical incident may bring in both the short- and long-term.

This will be a workshop format, real case scenarios will be used and it is important that participants have a copy of their School’s Critical Incident Plan with them.
