Sligo Education Centre aims to provide support to teachers and the wider education community, and to be an accessible and welcoming place of learning, reflection and social interaction.
Welcome to our website, the aim of which is to provide an on-line service for the teachers of Sligo and surrounding areas.Through this website we hope to provide access to the Education Centre's resources and to keep teachers informed of up coming events and courses available to them here in the Sligo Education Centre.

What is Droichead? MORE
Droichead is an integrated professional induction framework which is based on a whole school approach in supporting newly qualified teachers’ (NQTs) professional learning.

National Induction Programme for Teachers
The NIPT, in collaboration with ATECI , facilitates a Workshop Programme for newly qualified primary & post-primary teachers.

National ‘Write a Poem’ Competition 2018

Once again, PDST is inviting students to Write a Poem under two categories: Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. We hope that this popular competition will encourage young writers to compose poetry and assist teachers in supporting the writing of poetry.

Inquiry based approaches to Measures
This seminar capitalises on the natural opportunities for integration between Measures in the primary maths
curriculum and the wider STEM objectives. Participants explore pupil misconceptions and develop mathematical proficiencies through practical activities that embody an inquiry based learning approach. Participants will also explore innovative approaches to planning and assessing inquiry based learning lessons. Two teachers from a school will be allowed to attend and substitute cover is available
.

Subject Learning and Assessment Review Meeting Facilitation Training
Is aimed at teachers of English/Science/Business Studies that will be facilitating a Subject Learning and Assessment Review meeting in their school in the academic year 2017/2018.
Will explore key considerations for the facilitator before, during and after a SLAR.
Aims to further complement facilitation skills developed in core JCT subject in-service.
Provide advice, support and resources to facilitators in their work.

Assessment & Digital Technology in PE more
This two hour workshop will focus on formative assessment tools for both junior and senior cycle PE. A variety of assessment tools and approaches will be addressed to help easily embed assessment in your current PE programme.

An introduction to Leaving Certificate Applied more
This evening meeting will provide an introduction to the LCA programme and is particularly suited
to those who are new to teaching the programme.
It will explore:

  • Key terms associated with the LCA programme such as key assignment, task, modules

  • The breakdown of the 2 year programme and assessment: sessions, credits, final exams,interviews

  • Subject areas and specialisms

  • The role of the LCA co-ordinator

Post Primary Literacy Clusters
A two-hour session for post-primary teachers and school leaders interested in supporting the development of literacy, hosted in Sligo Education Centre
This cluster will:

  • support communities of practice to share their experiences and exchange ideas

  • aim to develop the leadership capacity of link teachers as they work within the context of a dynamic, progressive and collaborative group of professionals committed to improving students’ learning in literacy

  • discuss the process of critically engaging in "regular review" of embedding literacy skills through School Self Evaluation and the Statements of Practice

  • reflect on SSE Update 10 and the Interim Review of the National Strategy in connection to literacy

The French Embassy is organizing a free training workshop for secondary school teachers in Sligo
Principles and activities to develop and assess oral production skills
This session will be animated by M. Pierre-Yves Roux, French education expert by the
CIEP, and will deal with following theme :
"Principles and activities to develop and assess oral production skills".This workshop will quickly brush up the theoretical notions about oral skills and will mainly focus on tools for the classroom.( description )Workshop conducted through French.
