Introducing STEM  Through Playful Learning in the Primary Classroom
October 16th (7pm)
Facilitator: Colm O'Callaghan
This course aims to support primary school teachers and support staff in order to better equip them to integrate science into classroom activities.   Using a selection of readily available resources and simple hands-on approaches, the course will serve to embolden teachers to embrace science and enjoy the process of expanding the key scientific skills of:

  • Observing
  • Predicting and Questioning
  • Investigating and experimenting
  • Estimating and measuring
  • Analysing / Sorting and classifying
  • Recording and communicating

The course will explore STEM subjects and connect them to each of these simple experiments.   

Teachers will be invited to participate with their own materials** if they so wish, or merely observe if they prefer.
  1. Fun with tennis balls - Exploring: Energy and Forces, Materials and Change
  2. Tinfoil boats and Pasta towers- Energy and Forces, Materials and Change and Living Things
  3. Rocket Mice- Energy and Forces, Materials and Change
  4. The Best Bubbles- Energy and Forces, Materials and Change, Environmental Awareness and Change
  5. Paper Spinners- Living things, Energy and Forces, Materials and Change, Environmental Awareness and Change
